Apple iPad 3, Windows 8, Asus Transformer Prime... top tablet trends this year

So far this year, we have pretty much been thinking about one thing: smartphones. It is certainly an exciting time for handheld devices, with all manner of great phones set for release.
But in all the excitement, let’s not forget about another portable device that is set for big things this year: tablets.
2011 was a big year in the smartphone market, but tablets had a great year too. We had the iPad 2, Apple’s hugely successful device, and a collection of great Android tablets.
And, like the smartphone market, tablets are gearing up for a big year of sales. All the big tech players are expected to wade in with a tablet offering of some kind, so what can we expect?

Apple iPad 3

Android may beat iOS when it comes to the smartphone crown these days, but in terms of tablets, the iPad is still king.
The iPad 2 was a roaring success when it was released last year, and Apple’s next tablet offering is sure to be no different.
Due for release around Easter, Apple has been its usual quiet self about the iPad 3. But we can expect a quad-core processor, a high-res display, and a thinner body.

Windows 8 tablet?

Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 8, is due for release on laptops and PCs later this year. But we could also be seeing it on a tablet before the end of 2012.
A slip-up from Nokia’s French Division Manager Paul Amsellem last year fuelled speculation that Nokia will be making an entry into the tablet market, using Windows 8 OS.

Asus Transformer Prime

This exciting tablet has just been released in the UK. It has already received rave reviews, and Asus will be hoping the critical acclaim translates into good sales.
The first tablet (of many this year) to feature a quad-core processor, the Transformer Prime also boasts 1GB of Ram and up to 64GB of storage.
